Many of us believe that eating eggs is acceptable because

- eggs are nutritious, cheap and “sustainable”
The reality of eggs is quite different.
When an egg is hatched, there is an equal chance for it to be a female egg laying hen or a male hen. Male hens are useless and are killed right away using very violent and painful methods, considered standard industry practice.
A chicken lives up to 15 years if allowed to live a natural life. However, commercial egg laying hens are allowed to live about 2 years at the maximum when they cannot produce any more eggs and are slaughtered.
